From Science to Access: Where are we in cancer care in 2025? Brussels, Belgium

Cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges in Europe. It affects individuals, families, health systems and society as a whole – and continues to place growing pressure on healthcare budgets and resources.

While scientific and technological advances are improving outcomes, access to innovation remains uneven. According to the 2025 IHE Comparator Report, cancer mortality in Europe has stabilised, with several countries showing declines in death rates, but substantial inequalities remain. Around 200,000 cancer deaths could still be avoided each year if all European countries reached the survival levels seen in the best-performing health systems. Uptake of new medicines and diagnostics also varies significantly, particularly between Western and Eastern Europe.

Hosted by MEP Romana Jerković, this event will bring together policymakers, researchers, healthcare professionals, patients and industry to discuss the current state of cancer care in Europe, and explore ways to ensure that advances in science and technology translate into tangible results and equitable access for all patients.

Join us on 4 September in Brussels to take part in this timely discussion on the future of cancer care in Europe.
